Marrying a US Citizen
Covid 19 Dating with a US Citizen and More
Now that you are in the U.S. as always, you never know when you will find love. You are dating or engaged and you and your US citizen partner decide to marry. Our office can assist you in obtaining US permanent residency based on the marriage. The goal would be to process things while you remain in the US, so long as this is your preference.
We can help sort things out whether you are in status now or have overstayed on the visa you last used for entry. Or, perhaps neither of these are your situation. Perhaps you entered illegally? We can still listen to you, discuss options, and help figure out what fits best for you.
Being without status is dangerous. You can be deported.
Marrying an American while on a Tourist Visa or a Student Visa
There are many types of non immigrant travel or business visas, as well as student visas. Some are on DACA. Each situation is different. It is very important that a foreigner enter the U.S. for the purpose stated. Border agents want to hear the truth. Visitors are only to visit, students are only to study, etc.
Tourist Visa
What happens when you are visiting the US and on an evening out for a drink and reflecting you meet someone? Or you are in the grocery store and the woman behind you bumps you with her cart and you start chatting? If that most unplanned encounter leads to love and the two of you decide you want to be with one another the rest of your lives, we can help you with your immigration needs. Contacting a U.S. immigration attorney while you are still in the U.S. is important so that we can discuss the best route to approach the U.S. residency process. A discussion about your personal situation and plans for your work if interested in working in the U.S. make a difference. So does knowing when you can visit back home. We can strategize and plan with you.
Students
The current pandemic presents certain challenges to those in the U.S. to study as most all schools are not currently in session. Some may resume with an online option, but how does that affect a student who is attending on a student visa of some sort? Is it possible for the student to remain in a valid student status? Is it necessary to stay in school when you become engaged to a US citizen?
COVID-19
Covid 19 now presents additional challenges in that travel is very limited as well as dangerous and a risk you may not feel comfortable taking. Exceptions are being made in terms of handling non immigrant visa departure dates. But if, in the meantime, you are dating a US Citizen and the two of you decide to commit to a marriage, we can now help you work toward a green card based on marriage to the US Citizen.
The same situation presents itself for non immigrant tourists that now cannot depart the US. While here, you are introduced to people and a relationship grows strongly and becomes romantic. If you are thinking about marriage and what happens next, or are scared you will “mess up” your immigration status, I encourage you to contact us to decipher through your options. The goal is to not break any rules or regulations, and to obtain your U.S. residency while also being able to remain in the U.S. with your new spouse as newlyweds.
